3 Step Evaluation...

Infinite Pursuit of Performance & Health

Using state-of-the-art equipment and technology, our expert staff meticulously records every aspect of a pitcher's throwing mechanics and ball flight data. This detailed analysis provides athletes with the precise feedback needed to enhance performance and maintain health. The collected data is used to create customized training programs tailored to each athlete's unique requirements.

Evaluation Components The biomechanical evaluation includes assessments and data reports from three key areas:
  1. Kinematics, Kinetics, and Ball Flight
  2. Functional Movement
  3. Baseline Strength

This comprehensive data helps identify potential flaws and areas for improvement that impact a pitcher's performance and long-term health.

Collaborative Review Process
Our Certified Athletic Trainer and Strength Coach for Wake Forest Baseball perform functional movement screenings and provide detailed feedback. This information is then sent to our Lab Coordinator and Director of Player Development, who thoroughly reviews the data and conducts a follow-up consultation with the athlete.

Next Steps for Athletes

Following the evaluation, athletes can share the findings with their coaches and support team to further enhance their game. Our goal is to help players pitch at their highest potential while providing the tools to stay healthy. Evaluations are available for athletes of all skill levels aged 12 and up, with a strong recommendation for advanced pitchers (high school and above) to utilize this service due to the complexity of the information and the physical advancements required to implement the recommended changes.

Here's a bit on what an assessment and evaluation will look like:
Picture
1. Mark Seaver, our Strength Coach, will take each athlete through a total body screening, adapted through the Titleist Performance Institute movement screen for Professional Golf and a movement screen from OnBaseU specifically designed for baseball players.

We want to see if there are any movement limitations or motor-neurological deficits that will prevent the athletes from performing the movement patterns suggested by the team.

2. Jeff Strahm, our Athletic Trainer, will measure hip and shoulder mobility via goniometer measurements and a force dynamometer to determine predisposition to injury.

It is imperative that we screen for any blockages that will prevent the athlete from being able to move through the ranges of motion required to execute an elite pitching delivery consistently.

3. Dr. Kristen Nicholson, our Biomechanist and Lab Director, and her team will record each pitch during a bullpen session with the high speed motion capture cameras and the in-mound force plates and generate a report.

Our top-of-the-line cameras are taking in loads of quality information on how each athlete is moving, but we need the touch of a biomechanist to make sense of the information so that our player development staff can apply those changes with the athlete.
