Thousands of young athletes seek medical treatment every year for elbow and shoulder injuries, with many occurring among baseball pitchers, according to the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. To help identify the causes of many of these injuries and find ways to prevent them from occurring in the first place, Wake Forest Athletics and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist have partnered on a new state-of-the-art pitching lab. The Wake Forest Pitching Lab is one of the first of its kind in the United States and integrates the Wake Forest athletic department with the sports medicine experts at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.

The Facility
The Wake Forest Pitching Lab is located inside the Chris Hurd Player Development Center at David F. Couch Ballpark. Featuring the latest biomechanical evaluation equipment and technology, the state-of-the-art facility enables our staff to conduct comprehensive 3-D motion analyses of our players and develop training programs focused on the development and health of our pitching staff.

Using state-of-the-art equipment and technology including 16 high-speed cameras and Qualisys motion capture markers, our expert staff is able to record every detail of a pitcher's throwing delivery and follow through to provide instant feedback on several large video monitors. After a thorough analysis, that data is used to develop customized training programs targeted at the individual needs of the pitcher.
